History of BASCHILD

Company history

BASCHILD comes from the vision of Gian Pietro Baschenis and his passion for wood.

Gian Pietro Baschenis was born on June 28, 1942, in Averara, a small village of the Brembana Valley, where the father and the grandfather ran a woodworking business.

When he was 15 years old, Gian Pietro worked in the family workshop, developing an interest in wood, that accompanied him throughout his life. The boy took care of the woodwork together with the brother and the father from 1957 to 1978.

During this period Gian Pietro installed in the small shop the first drying technologies in Italy, purchased from the Hildebrand Company. With the German company, at that time the first world manufacturer in the industry, the thirty-six years old BASCHILD founder established a 5 years partnership, acquiring additional expertise in the woodworking field.

Thanks to the experience gained, Gian Pietro replaced Hildebrand in customer preferences, so that in 1988 he chose to take the plunge: the establishment of BASCHILD.

This decision was made possible also by the help of the technician Vincenzo Bruno, Gian Pietro’s friend and right-hand man, nowadays at the forefront of drying kilns production and assembly.

The name of the company comes from the combination of the surnames Baschenis and Hildebrand, that nowadays isn’t tied to BASCHILD any more.

At the beginning the headquarters was located in Mozzo (BG) and only two employees worked there.

Thanks to the increasing number of orders and to the quality level achieved by products, BASCHILD operated two enlargements: the first in 1996 with the new office in Roncola di Treviolo (BG), and the second in 2005 with the construction of the current site in Treviolo.

Starting from the 2000s BASCHILD broadens the horizons, started building drying kilns across all five continents and established collaborations with foreign companies, like the German MAHILD, of which the Baschenis family owns a capital share.

BASCHILD history is inextricably interwoven with the life of the founder Gian Pietro Baschenis, who ran the company until his death in 2012. His knowledge and experience are still alive in the drying kilns designed by BASCHILD.
